Dr. Peter A. Tzendzalian was raised in Cupertino, California and received his BA in Physiology and BS in Philosophy from the University of California at Davis. He pursued a career in research at UC Davis in Kidney Physiology and then at UCSF in brain and spinal cord injury. He continued his education and worked towards a Master’s in Epidemiology at SUNY Buffalo before moving to Durham in 1995. Dr. Tzendzalian, the son of a dentist, finally decided to enter the same profession as his father and completed his Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000. Dr. Tzendzalian continued his education in a General Practice Residency at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In his residency, Dr. Tzendzalian received extensive training in all areas of general dentistry, including hospital operating room dentistry, IV sedation dentistry, oral surgery, and dental implants.
Dr. Tzendzalian opened his own private practice in his hometown of Durham, North Carolina, in 2003. Dr. Tzendzalian quickly became known as a family dentist who is a gentle and compassionate dentist who cared for and provided amazing dentistry. He was among the first general dentists to complete the NC Dental Board certification to perform Moderate Sedation in his office and has helped many apprehensive patients improve their smiles. Dr. Tzendzalian is a member of the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He also currently holds multiple positions with the UNC School of Dentistry as an Adjunct Faculty member and an advisory board member for Global Initiatives.
He is married to Dr. Kristin Tzendzalian, a geriatric pharmacist and dental practice administrator. They reside in Durham with their four beautiful children and are active in their community. In his spare time, he enjoys bicycling, watching movies, and being involved with his church, as well as following global politics.
Dr. Tzendzalian has a servant heart and cares deeply about those in need locally and the world. He serves our community through free dental clinics, Baptist bus clinics, MOM clinics, and on mission trips all over the world. He has been to Haiti, Armenia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, South East Asia and more! He has a heart to serve, educate, and learn from different cultures.
Dr. Tzendzalian, received many awards for his advanced knowledge of General Dentistry and has committed to continue learning and implementing new technology to better help his patients. This technology helps busy people, like physicians and stay-at-home moms, get their dentistry done in fewer visits with superior results.
His remarkable compassion and leadership have allowed so many people of Durham to benefit from his dental skills. His broad range of skills, interests and relaxed personality are a perfect match for the residents of Durham and the surrounding Counties.
